The DCC Buccaneers opened the game on a 13-1 run and never looked back in their home matchup with the Lake Region State College Royals on Sunday afternoon in Glendive. Lake Region connected on two in a row from long range with 8 minutes remaining in the first half to cut the lead to 13, but Dawson responded with a 20-2 run which started with four straight shots from long range. They led 53-21 at the half.
The second half was much more balanced and the deficit stayed in the 30’s for most of the way as Dawson cruised to a 94-56 win. The Bucs made 18 3’s on the night and out of their 37 field goals, they assisted on 30 of them. All thirteen Bucs scored and grabbed a rebound.  Five players were in double figures led by Cam’ron Dunfee’s 17 points on 5-9 shooting from long range and one thunderous dunk.  Kell Schwers and CJ Nelson both finished with 12 points by hitting 4 3-pointers each.  The two point guards finished with 10 points each; Man Man Baker also added 8 rebounds while Roulervee Vann added 11 assists to finish with a double-double.
Dion Ford led LRSC with 16 points in 17 minutes.
Dawson Coach Joe Peterson praised his troops, “I loved the effort they played with tonight and how unselfish they were. In a game like this it would be easy to get selfish and try to get stats, but all of them continued to make the extra pass and turn down good shots for great shots.”
Dawson moves to 13-6 on the season and 2-0 in conference while Lake Region stands at 6-11 on the year and 0-1 in conference. The Bucs will hit the road this week to play at North Dakota State College of Science on Thursday before returning home next Sunday to play Dakota College Bottineau on Hall of Fame Weekend.
