DAWSON COMMUNITY COLLEGE MODIFYING CLASS DELIVERY TO LIMIT SPREAD OF COVID-19
GLENDIVE, MONT. – March 14, 2020 – President Scott Mickelsen announced on March 13 2020 that Dawson Community College will extend its spring break one week and transition towards an online delivery platform to help limit the spread of COVID-19.
“Administration has made this choice after careful consideration based on the guidelines set forth by the Montana University System and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” said Dr. Mickelsen. “As a precautionary measure, we are placing a priority on our students, faculty, staff, and community.
DCC’s spring break was scheduled from March 7-15. Spring break will be extended to March 23. During the additional week, staff will work on transitioning classes to remote instructional platforms. Instructors will communicate these delivery methods with students. Career and technical classes may not make the full transition to remote delivery. Instructors will be in communication with students. All classes currently delivered online will continue on March 16.
Unless they want or need to, students are not required to return to campus following spring break.
Travel restrictions related to College business have also been initiated.
The NJCAA is suspending all competition through April 3. DCC’s teams will continue to practice, but will not be traveling or competing. As of today, the NIRA has issued no statement regarding postponing or cancelling rodeos.
Group meeting sizes on campus have also not been restricted. This will be monitored daily and adjusted accordingly per guidance from the Montana University System and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
DCC’s campus is open and functioning. The dorms, library, offices, and food service will be open to serve faculty, students, and staff.
“We understand there will be concerns across campus with employees and students,” Dr. Mickelsen said. “We are certain that all Dawson faculty, staff, and students will practice ‘caring regard’ and take the best road possible to make this transition as possible for all involved.”
DCC has established a central call line regarding COVID-19. Beginning Monday, March 16, individuals with questions or concerns may contact Randi Johnson at 406-377-9401.
