DCC hosted their annual Barefoot Coaching Night at their home basketball games vs. Bismarck State College on Super Bowl Sunday. Fourteen pairs of shoes were donated on Sunday and will be distributed to those in need within the MonDak Region by Samaritan’s Feet and $650 was donated to provide school shoes and education in Kenya. Some donations are still trickling in this week.
Coach Romeo with the Lady Bucs and Coach Peterson with the Bucs participated in the event by taking off their shoes and coaching barefooted to raise awareness for the millions of people throughout the world who don’t have proper footwear.
Men’s Coach Joe Peterson was very pleased, “It’s a little awkward and uncomfortable to coach a game barefooted, but that’s nothing compared to what millions of people deal with every day not having proper footwear to go to school or carry out simple chores. The students, faculty, staff and many from the community pitched in to help make this event a success. We have a great community who is very generous and always ready to help. Their generosity will make a big impact in many lives here in the region and across the world in Kenya.”
