Dawson Community College Women’s Basketball is proud to announce the official signing of 6’1 post player Mar Marata Crespo of Barcelona, Spain.

Mar started playing basketball at the age of 5 years old, and continued to develop her skills throughout her career playing for different ball clubs. After graduating high school in 2018 for Sant Gabriel in Barcelona, she played and started for Santa Rosa Lima Horta of the Segona Catalana second division, who went 18-12, placing 5th out of 16 teams this past 2018-2019 season. Mar averaged 12 points and 9 rebounds.

A solid contact by Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. in Spain highly recommended Mar to enforce power to the Lady Bucs frontline. It was Adria Castejon Gonzalez, CEO of the Elite Sports Academy that has assisted in exposing Spanish talent to the United States. Coach Romeo appreciated the organization’s efforts, “I can’t thank Adria enough for his continued support to promote players from his country and the professional relationship we developed. Elite Sports Academy is a class act organization, and has helped in every aspect of the process of getting players moved on.”

Coach Romeo commented on his first international signee for the upcoming season, “Adria and I have developed a great relationship over time, and when he presented Mar to me, I was quickly attracted to her game. Mar gives us a strong presence offensively and defensively, with good rebounding efficiency. She has solid back to the basket moves, and defends well using her height wisely. She is able to run our style of play sprinting up and down the court. We can’t wait to work with her, and develop her into a more advanced player. Her IQ is something that will benefit our program as well.”

Mar had comments of her own about signing with DCC, “Having the chance to come to USA and attend Dawson, and play for the Lady Bucs is a unique opportunity that only happens once in a lifetime. I’m really excited to get to know my teammates and coaches. It’s a great opportunity to improve my basketball skills, and to get to know people. I’m really looking forward to coming to Dawson!”
